EH Haylage was developed by Ed Howard for his eventer Basil, who became allergic to the dust in hay and developed COPD. This prompted Ed to develop a dust-free alternative forage to traditional hay. EH Haylage has gone on to produce over a million haylage bales over a 16-year period with multiple product lines for horses' differing nutritional needs.

In 2021 Ed handed the EH Haylage reins over to his cousin's family, the Scotts, who have been growing haylage under the T H Scott & Son brand since 2012.

This marks a new chapter in both haylage brands' histories as they consolidate haylage production under the single banner of EH Haylage at new premises built in Beeston, near Dereham in Mid Norfolk.

EH Haylage founder Ed continues to work with the Scotts behind the scenes advising on grass growth & production, making best use of their combined expertise built up over two generations.

In September 2023 the Scotts were delighted to welcome Ian Gibson to the haylage team as General Manager. With over 25 years' working in the equine feed industry, he has a wealth of experience to draw on.

Our Process

The highest level of quality control is maintained across the entire process; from growing the specially selected ryegrass varieties through to the critical harvesting, packaging, storing and distribution.

EH Haylage bales are made from specially selected ryegrass varieties. We manage our grass like our arable crops and keep it free from invasive weeds so that the forage is safe and palatable. The haylage is then cut and baled in plastic to retain its moisture before being packed in sealed bags, based on the seasonal dry matter.

We now offer five products in approximately 16kg bales: Original, Hi-Fibre, Soft Cut, Lite and Hay, as well as large-bale approximately 100kg, first and second cut 2023 haylage.
